Why is it so hard to lose weight and keep it off?
You see... Weight gain is the symptom of a much bigger issue! An issue that these crazy plans
do not address. The BIGGER ISSUE can also explain other symptoms like feeling tired all the
time, crazy cravings for senseless carbs, sleepless nights with a mind that will not turn off or
belly bloating and all its related digestive issues
Sound Familiar ??
Welcome To.. A Functional Nutrition Approach for Weight Loss...
That goes well beyond the number on a scale or inches lost. It is built on one simple yet
powerful principle : activating a healing state within. You see... the reason most crazy diet and
exercise plans fail is because they do not address the ROOT CAUSE !
My personalized approach to sustainable weight loss uses science-backed strategies that not
only helps shed those extra pounds but promotes long-term health and vitality. As a functional
dietitian, I have dived deep into some weight loss tips that may surprise you.
Let's explore...
NUMBER ONE: ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSE
Weight gain is often a symptom of a system imbalance in the body. Root causes are unique for
each individual and why there is ‘no one size fits all’. For lasting results, you have to address or
the root of the issue. This may include inflammation, hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance,
poor sleep, chronic stress, gut dysbiosis, in addition to poor dietary choices. Instead of merely
focusing on the number on the scale, try a new approach of addressing root cause for
sustainable weight loss and overall well-being.
NUMBER TWO: ADDRESS THE ‘HOW’ OF EATING, NOT JUST THE WHAT
It's not just about what you are eating but how you are eating. Are you eating at your desk on
your computer during your lunch break? Or do you take the time to stop, pause and eat
mindfully giving your body the attention it deserves. Digestion is optimal in a relaxed, calm or
parasympathetic state. Meal pattern and timing can influence our metabolic and appetite
hormones like insulin, leptin, and ghrelin. For example, insulin is a ‘fat-making hormone’
released any time we eat. So if your meal pattern is 3 meals & 3 snacks daily, your body is
constantly receiving the signal for ‘fat-making’. Addressing the how you eat matters.
NUMBER THREE: DO YOU GET ENOUGH POTASSIUM
Like your Mother always said, eat your vegetables! Some of the extra weight may be fluid
weight knowns as myxedema. This can accumulate when the sodium-potassium ratio is out of
balance. This is why when you adopt a healthy eating plan and rapidly lose weight right away,
you are actually losing up to eight pounds of water weight. Often overlooked, potassium plays a
crucial role in regulating fluid balance in the body. Potassium also helps to lower insulin (that fat
making hormone) in the body. Adding potassium-rich foods such as asparagus, avocado,
Brussel sprouts, bananas, sweet potatoes with skins, and leafy greens can be one of the most
health-changing things you can do.
NUMBER FOUR: AVOID RESTRICTIVE DIETS
Say goodbye to yo-yo dieting and restrictive eating plans. These diets do not last long term,
they do not offer quality nutrition and they leave you feeling frustrated with an
unhealthy relationship to your food and body. I actually do not prefer the word ‘diet’ as it has the
word ‘die’ in it. Avoiding restrictive diets is crucial due to the negative metabolic
impacts, a cycle of weight regain and ultimately hindering long term weight management.
Adopt a ‘nutrition plan’ that you can sustain in the long term.
NUMBER FIVE : PAY ATTENTION TO THE NUTRITIONAL QUALITY
What does work in the long term: embracing a Whole Foods Balanced Approach: This is where
long term health takes priority. The foods you eat have to supply nutrients. Every day counts,
every meal counts & every bite counts. This approach not only supports sustainable weight loss
but also helps address underlying system imbalances, promoting overall health and vitality.
Give it 90 days and you will change your life. You will boost energy, heal digestion, improve
sleep, elevate mood, radiate skin, release stubborn weight and live with vitality.
NUMBER SIX: REMOVE PLASTIC FROM YOUR LIFE
Plastic contains harmful chemicals known as neuroendocrine disruptors, which can interfere
with hormone balance and contribute to weight gain. This includes bisphenol A and phthalates
that have also been linked to various health issues. Replace the plastic water bottles and food containers and 0pt for glass or stainless steel containers to reduce exposure.
NUMBER SEVEN: UNDERSTAND CRAVINGS ARE NOT YOUR FAULT
Breaking up with sugar is very hard ! Good news... it is not your fault. And here is
why...processed foods are like drugs in that they trigger the same pleasure-reward system in
the brain. We have an epidemic of overeating processed foods that deliver unbelievably large
doses of sugar and fat, that we have been exposed to for a very long time starting with the sugary morning cereals we loved as kids. The food industry invests heavily in creating irresistible, highly palatable foods through bliss point science and surround marketing techniques. Recognize that craving these foods are not your fault. And know you can curb. It starts with designing your environment for success. Do a healing kitchen makeover, remove the processed foods and stock up with nutrient dense whole foods.
NUMBER EIGHT: FIND JOY FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS
What does joy have to do with weight loss? Everything. When you engage in doing
what you love, you are less likely to rely on food for comfort. And beyond the emotional aspect,
there is a science to joy and weight loss that is about activating a state of healing within. Your
autonomic nervous system has two states: one is the sympathetic knowns as the fight or flight
and the other is the parasympathetic known as rest & digest or tend and befriend. It is in the
parasympathetic state where all the ‘magic’ happens; this is the healing state of the body.
